About the course

A six-year, 360-credit single-cycle Master’s in Dentistry, taught in English. The university describes it as the first English-taught dentistry course in Italy, developed with the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE), with clinical training at the Santa Maria alle Scotte hospital and the Le Scotte teaching centre in Siena.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm.
  • Admission is through Italy’s national English-language admission test for Medicine and Dentistry. In 2026 it had 60 multiple-choice questions in 100 minutes: 4 reading comprehension, 5 logical reasoning, 23 biology, 15 chemistry and 13 physics and maths. Each correct answer scored +1.5 and each wrong answer -0.4. EU candidates needed at least 20 out of 90 to be ranked, and places are allocated through a national ranking.
  • English: the course is taught in English. When registering for the test, candidates can declare an English certificate at B2 level or higher (for example Cambridge, IELTS or TOEFL). We could not confirm a separate minimum English level set by the university, so check the 2027/28 call.

Working in Ireland afterwards

A dental degree from an EU member state that is listed in the EU Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC, as amended) can be recognised automatically by the Dental Council of Ireland. To get this, you provide a certificate from your home country’s competent authority confirming the degree meets the Directive’s minimum training conditions, plus proof of English-language proficiency. EU dental degrees that do not qualify for automatic recognition may instead be assessed under the Directive.

Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: 2027/28 dates are not yet published. For 2026/27 entry, registration for the national English-language admission test ran on Universitaly from 26 August to 9 September 2026 (closing at 15:00 Italian time). The test was held on 29 September 2026 at 13:30 Italian time. Scores were due on 8 October and national merit rankings on 26 October 2026. Expect a similar late-summer timetable in 2027, but confirm on the University of Siena admissions page..

Costs

  • Fees at Siena are income-based (Italian ISEE). Students with no Italian ISEE pay the maximum, and the 2026/27 fee regulation says the ‘ISEE parificato’ is not accepted. For this English-taught Dentistry course, the regulation sets the fee at the maximum for EU-regulated health courses plus a EUR 1,650 supplement. By our reading of the fee table, that comes to about EUR 4,340 a year for a first-year student (EUR 2,690 plus EUR 1,650). This supplement means the English-taught course costs more than standard courses, and EU students pay it too. On top of this you pay the Tuscan regional right-to-study (DSU) tax and a virtual stamp duty with the first of four instalments. There is also a fee to register for the national admission test, paid through Universitaly. Check the exact figures with the university’s fee simulator. 2027/28 fees are not yet published.
