About the course

An engineering degree in designing automation and control systems. Students choose a specialisation in Control Systems, Mechatronic Systems or Process Control, and can also pick a study path: Deeper Competence, Innovation Development, or Pedagogy (a teaching qualification). KTU runs the programme in both English and Lithuanian and lists it as an English-taught programme, so apply for the English-taught version.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • KTU does not publish rules specific to the Leaving Certificate. It requires a completed secondary school certificate, an average of over 60% in each entry subject, and no more than three years since leaving school. EU (including Irish) documents do not need an apostille. How Leaving Cert grades (H1-H8, O1-O8) are converted is not published, so confirm this with KTU admissions.
  • Your competitive score is based on Mathematics (40%), one of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, IT, Geography or Engineering (40%), and English (20%), so Leaving Cert Maths and a science or technology subject are essential.
  • English: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 75, CEFR B2 or equivalent. KTU offers a free online English test if you have no certificate, and you may be exempt if your earlier education was entirely in English and this is documented. Do not assume Leaving Cert English counts automatically.

How to apply

  1. Check the 2027 requirementsFrom October 2026, check the KTU bachelor admissions page and the programme page for 2027 dates, fees and entry rules.
  2. Prepare documentsPassport or ID, Leaving Cert results or a school statement of predicted or provisional results (check that KTU accepts this), and English proof or evidence of English-medium schooling.
  3. Apply on apply.ktu.eduChoose the English-taught programme, submit the application and pay the application fee before the deadline (1 June in the 2026 cycle). KTU says it reviews applications within 2 to 3 working days after payment.
  4. Accept and payIf you get an offer, pay the first year’s tuition (60 credits) before arrival. Classes start on 1 September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2026 entry, KTU applications ran from 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026, with studies starting on 1 September 2026. Dates for 2027 entry have not been published yet, but applications are likely to open in autumn 2026. State-funded places for EU citizens are handled separately through the national LAMA BPO system..

Costs

  • EUR 4,201 a year (EUR 70.02 per credit, 60 credits a year) for engineering programmes in 2026/27, as published by KTU. The first year’s tuition must be paid before arrival in Lithuania; from the second year it can be paid once per semester. KTU also charges an application fee (EUR 100 according to its FAQ), which is non-refundable once the application is registered. All applicants are automatically considered for partial tuition waivers. EU citizens can also compete for tuition-free state-funded places through LAMA BPO. The 2027/28 fee has not been published yet.
This is a fee-paying place. Free state-funded places go through LAMA BPO. The 2026 deadline was 1 June, before Leaving Cert results are issued, so ask KTU early how it handles predicted or provisional results.
