About the course

A four-year, 240-credit degree. The international version, applied for through apply.ktu.edu, is taught in English, and there is also a Lithuanian-taught version. It covers aircraft design and aircraft technical maintenance, with a specialisation in Design of Aircraft or Technology of Aircraft Technical Maintenance, plus internships and hands-on training.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • KTU does not publish a rule for the Irish Leaving Cert specifically. The general rules are: completed secondary education, at least 60% in each subject used for the competitive score, and a pass in at least one state or equivalent school-leaving exam. The programme page says you should have finished school no more than three years before applying. KTU does its own free academic recognition and does not publish a set grade conversion. Ask KTU (academic.recognition@ktu.lt) how H and O grades are treated.
  • The competitive score is 40% Maths, 40% one of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, IT, Geography or Engineering, and 20% English. Physics is the obvious choice. Applicants who finished school before 2018 must sit KTU’s entrance exams.
  • English: B2 is required (IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 75, CEFR B2 or equivalent). You are exempt if you are a native speaker, or if your previous studies were taught entirely in English and your documents show this. KTU also offers a free online English test. Check with KTU what proof an Irish applicant needs.

How to apply

  1. Choose your Leaving Cert subjectsTake Maths, Physics or another science subject, and English, and aim for at least 60% in each.
  2. Apply on apply.ktu.eduThe international portal lists the English-taught version. Upload your ID, school certificate and results, and English proof if you need it, then pay the EUR 100 fee. The 2026 deadline was 1 June. Check the 2027 date.
  3. Academic recognitionKTU checks your school qualification free of charge, usually within a month. Send your final Leaving Cert results as soon as they are issued.
  4. EnrolPay the advance first-year fee, sign the study agreement, arrange accommodation and start in early September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2026 entry, applications on apply.ktu.edu ran from 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026. Studies started in early September 2026: KTU’s admissions page gives 1 September and the application portal gives 3 September. KTU says applications open in mid-October each year, but the 2027 dates are not published yet, so check the KTU admissions site. State-funded places go through LAMA BPO, which has its own timetable..

Costs

  • EUR 4,201 per year (EUR 70.02 per credit, 60 credits a year) for engineering programmes in 2026/27. KTU shows no separate EU rate. There is also a one-off, non-refundable EUR 100 application fee, and you pay the first year’s fee in advance once you get an offer. KTU considers high-achieving applicants for partial tuition waivers. EU citizens can also compete for tuition-free state-funded places through LAMA BPO, but most of those are on Lithuanian-taught courses. The 2027/28 fee is not published yet.
This is an engineering degree in aircraft design and maintenance, not pilot training. The programme page lists it as taught in English and Lithuanian, but the version on KTU’s international portal (apply.ktu.edu) is listed as English-taught. Apply for that version before the early deadline (1 June in 2026).
