Entry requirements for Irish students

  • KTU does not publish rules specific to the Irish Leaving Cert. It asks for a secondary school diploma with an average above 60%, including above 60% in each entry subject. You must have finished school no more than 3 years earlier. KTU does not publish how Leaving Cert grades (H1-H8, O1-O8) are converted, so ask admissions, and ask whether predicted or provisional results are accepted.
  • Ranking: 40% a final-exam grade in Mathematics or Economics, 40% a final-exam grade in History, IT, Geography or a foreign language, and 20% an oral motivation exam. Your Leaving Cert Maths grade matters.
  • English: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 75, CEFR B2 or an equivalent. You are exempt if your previous studies were fully in English and this is shown on your certificate or transcript. Otherwise, KTU runs an online English exam. Ask KTU whether a school letter confirming English-medium teaching is accepted alongside the Leaving Cert.

How to apply

  1. Watch for the 2027 windowThe 2026 window ran from 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026. Look for the 2027 dates on admissions.ktu.edu from October 2026.
  2. Apply on apply.ktu.eduUpload your passport, school results or predicted results, and English evidence. Pay the EUR 100 application fee within 2 weeks.
  3. Motivation examComplete KTU’s oral motivation exam, which counts for 20% of the score.
  4. Offer and paymentIf you get an offer, pay the first year’s tuition in advance, send your final Leaving Cert results in August and enrol before studies start in early September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2026 entry, applications on apply.ktu.edu ran from 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026, with studies starting in early September 2026 (the portal gives 3 September). The 2026 window has closed, and KTU has not yet published its 2027 dates. Expect the 2027 window to follow a similar pattern, but confirm it on admissions.ktu.edu..

Costs

  • KTU charges EUR 3,250 a year for full-time study in 2026/27 (EUR 54.17 per credit, 240 credits in total). There is no separate EU rate. You also pay a one-off application fee of EUR 100, due within 2 weeks of applying. It is not refunded. The first year’s tuition must be paid in advance before enrolment. KTU offers partial tuition waivers to candidates with outstanding results. The 2027/28 fee has not been published. EU citizens can also compete for tuition-free state-funded places through LAMA BPO, but most of those are on Lithuanian-taught courses.
KTU’s deadline (1 June in the 2026 cycle) falls before Leaving Cert results come out, so ask KTU how to apply with predicted or provisional results.
