About the course

A four-year (240 ECTS) chemical engineering degree in KTU’s Faculty of Chemical Technology. It covers new materials, chemical process management and industrial problem-solving, with laboratory-based teaching alongside lectures. KTU runs the programme in both English and Lithuanian; international applicants apply for the English-taught version.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • KTU does not publish a specific rule for the Irish Leaving Cert. Its general rules: a completed secondary school certificate, an average grade above 60% in each entry subject, and no more than 3 years since you finished school. Applicants who finished school before 2018 must sit KTU entrance exams. Ask KTU admissions how your Leaving Cert grades (H1-H8, O1-O8) are converted.
  • The competition score is 40% Mathematics, 40% one of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, IT, Geography or Engineering Technologies, and 20% English. Take Maths and a science subject, ideally Chemistry.
  • English: IELTS 5.5 (at least 5.5 in each part), TOEFL iBT 75 or CEFR B2, or equivalent. KTU may waive this if your previous studies were fully in English and you can prove it. Leaving Cert English is not named, so ask KTU to confirm in writing.

How to apply

  1. Check subjects and EnglishTake Maths and a science subject (ideally Chemistry) for the Leaving Cert. Ask KTU which English proof it accepts, and whether a school letter confirming English-medium teaching is enough.
  2. Apply on apply.ktu.eduCreate an account, upload your Leaving Cert results (predicted or provisional if you are still at school), passport and English proof, and pay the EUR 100 application fee. The 2026 cycle closed on 1 June, so check the 2027 dates when applications open (likely October 2026).
  3. Consider a state-funded placeEU citizens can also apply for tuition-free state-funded places through LAMA BPO (main round usually June to July). Apply to SKVC early for Leaving Cert recognition, because you need it first.
  4. Accept and payIf you get an offer, sign the study agreement, pay the first year’s tuition (60 credits) before enrolment, arrange accommodation in Kaunas and start in September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For the 2026/27 intake KTU accepted applications on apply.ktu.edu from 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026, and studies started in early September 2026. That window has now closed. 2027 dates have not been published yet; check apply.ktu.edu from about October 2026. State-funded places for EU citizens are allocated through LAMA BPO’s main round (usually June to July), and you need SKVC recognition of the Leaving Cert first..

Costs

  • EUR 4,201 per year for full-time study in 2026/27 (240 ECTS in total, EUR 70.02 per credit). KTU offers partial fee waivers to candidates with outstanding results. There is also a one-off, non-refundable EUR 100 application fee. 2027/28 fees have not been published yet. EU citizens who win a state-funded place through LAMA BPO pay no tuition, but these places are limited and competitive, and most are on Lithuanian-taught courses.
KTU’s direct-application deadline has been 1 June, before Leaving Cert results come out, so apply early with predicted results.
