About the course

A four-year economics degree (240 ECTS) that leads to a Bachelor of Social Sciences. The international application stream is taught in English (KTU also runs a Lithuanian version), full-time on campus in Kaunas.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • KTU does not publish rules specific to the Irish Leaving Cert. For the international intake, it asks for a secondary school diploma with an average above 60%, including above 60% in each entry subject. You must have finished school no more than 3 years earlier. KTU does not publish how Leaving Cert grades (H1-H8, O1-O8) are converted, so ask admissions. EU documents do not need an apostille.
  • Entry subjects and ranking: KTU’s competition score is 40% a final-exam grade in Mathematics or Economics, 40% a final-exam grade in History, IT, Geography or a foreign language, and 20% an oral motivation exam. The application portal also asks for at least 2 references.
  • English: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 75, CEFR B2 or an equivalent. You are exempt if your previous studies were fully in English and this is stated on your certificate or transcript, or confirmed by your school. If you have no test result, KTU runs its own online English exam. Ask KTU whether a Leaving Cert plus a school letter is enough.

How to apply

  1. Watch for the 2027 windowKTU’s 2026 window ran from 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026. Look for the 2027 dates on admissions.ktu.edu from October 2026.
  2. Prepare documentsGather your passport, Leaving Cert results or predicted/provisional results, English evidence (or a school letter confirming you were taught in English) and 2 references.
  3. Apply on apply.ktu.eduSubmit the BSc Economics application and pay the EUR 100 application fee within 2 weeks.
  4. Motivation exam, offer and paymentComplete the oral motivation exam. If you get an offer, pay the first year’s tuition in advance and enrol before studies start in early September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2026 entry, applications on apply.ktu.edu ran from 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026. The KTU admissions page gives 1 September 2026 as the start of studies, and the application portal gives 3 September 2026. The 2026 window is now closed, and KTU has not yet published its 2027 dates. If KTU keeps the same pattern, expect it to open around mid-October 2026 and close around early June 2027. Confirm this on admissions.ktu.edu. State-funded places are handled separately through LAMA BPO..

Costs

  • KTU charges EUR 3,250 a year for full-time study in 2026/27 (EUR 54.17 per credit, 60 credits a year). There is no separate EU rate for this fee-paying place. You also pay a one-off application fee of EUR 100. It is due within 2 weeks of applying and is not refunded. You must pay the first year’s tuition (60 credits) in advance before signing the study agreement. From the second year you can pay in instalments each semester. KTU says it considers all applicants for partial tuition waivers, which go to candidates with outstanding results. The 2027/28 fee has not been published yet. EU citizens can also compete for tuition-free state-funded places through LAMA BPO, but these are limited and mostly on Lithuanian-taught courses.
KTU’s deadline (1 June in the 2026 cycle) falls before Leaving Cert results come out, so ask KTU how to apply with predicted or provisional grades. Make sure you apply through the English-taught international route on apply.ktu.edu.
