About the course

Covers electrical circuits, power electronics, energy systems and electrical networks. Students choose between two specialisations: Energy Converters and Control, or Information Technology of Electrical Engineering. They can also pick a study path: Deeper Competence, Innovation Development or Pedagogy. The degree awarded is a Bachelor of Engineering Sciences.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • KTU publishes no Ireland-specific rule. It requires a completed secondary school certificate, an average of over 60% in each entry subject, and no more than three years since leaving school. EU (including Irish) documents do not need an apostille. Confirm with KTU admissions how Leaving Cert grades (H1-H8, O1-O8) are converted.
  • Your competitive score is based on Mathematics (40%), one of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, IT, Geography or Engineering (40%), and English (20%), so Leaving Cert Maths and a science or technology subject are essential.
  • English: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 75, CEFR B2 or equivalent. You may be exempt if your earlier education was entirely in English and this is documented; otherwise KTU offers a free online English test. Do not assume Leaving Cert English counts automatically.

How to apply

  1. Check eligibilityMake sure you will have Leaving Cert Maths and a science or technology subject, and that you apply within three years of finishing school.
  2. Apply on apply.ktu.eduCreate an account and upload your Leaving Cert results (or provisional results), passport and English proof. The 2026 window ran from 15 Oct 2025 to 1 Jun 2026; check the 2027 dates.
  3. Pay the application feeYour application is reviewed only after you pay. KTU says it reviews applications within 2 to 3 working days of payment.
  4. Accept and pay tuitionPay the advance tuition (60 credits) before arrival and arrange accommodation. Studies start on 1 September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2026 entry, KTU’s direct applications ran from 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026, with studies starting 1 September 2026. Dates for 2027 entry are not yet published; applications are likely to open in autumn 2026. State-funded places go through LAMA BPO’s main round (usually June to July) and need SKVC recognition of the Leaving Cert first..

Costs

  • EUR 4,201 per year (EUR 70.02 per credit, 60 credits a year) for engineering programmes in 2026/27. The first year is paid before arrival; from the second year it can be paid once per semester. KTU charges an application fee (EUR 100 according to its FAQ), which is non-refundable once the application is registered. All applicants are automatically considered for partial tuition waivers. EU citizens can also compete for tuition-free state-funded places through LAMA BPO, but these are limited and competitive. 2027/28 fees are not yet published. Confirm all amounts on the KTU website.
The EUR 4,201 fee applies to fee-paying places. State-funded places for EU citizens need a separate LAMA BPO application and SKVC recognition. KTU’s direct deadline was 1 June in 2026, before Leaving Cert results are out, so apply early with predicted or provisional results and ask KTU how it handles them.
