About the course

A four-year, 240-credit programme in materials physics and nanotechnology, leading to a Bachelor of Technological and Physical Sciences. KTU runs it in both English and Lithuanian, so make sure you apply for the English-taught version.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • KTU does not publish a specific rule for the Leaving Certificate. You need a secondary school leaving certificate, obtained no more than 3 years before applying, with an average of at least 60% in each entry subject. KTU publishes no conversion for Leaving Cert grades (H1-H8, O1-O8), so ask international@ktu.lt how it assesses them. KTU’s 1 June deadline falls before Leaving Cert results come out, so also ask how it handles Irish applicants.
  • Your competition score is weighted 40% Maths, 40% a science subject (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, IT, Geography or Engineering) and 20% English. Taking Maths and a science subject is therefore essential.
  • English: B2 level is required (IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 75, or equivalent). Applicants whose previous studies were fully in English, with documents to prove it, may not need a test. Confirm with KTU whether your Leaving Cert qualifies.

How to apply

  1. Check subjectsMake sure you are taking Maths and at least one science subject (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering and so on). Together they make up 80% of your competition score.
  2. Apply onlineRegister on apply.ktu.edu when the 2027 window opens (it ran from 15 October to 1 June in the 2026 cycle). Fill in the form, upload your documents and pay the application fee by bank transfer. KTU reviews applications 2-3 working days after payment.
  3. Send English proofUpload an English test result (IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 75 or higher) or proof that your schooling was fully in English, and ask KTU how it will assess your Leaving Cert results.
  4. Accept and payIf you get an offer, sign the study agreement and pay the first-year fee before studies start on 1 September in Kaunas.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2026 entry, KTU took applications from 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026, with studies starting on 1 September 2026. KTU had not yet published the 2027 dates, but a similar window (opening mid-October 2026 and closing around 1 June 2027) is likely. Check the KTU admissions site..

Costs

  • EUR 4,201 a year for full-time study in 2026/27 (EUR 70.02 per credit, 60 credits a year). International applicants also pay an application fee, which is non-refundable once the application is registered; KTU’s bachelor page does not state the amount. The full first-year fee (60 credits) must be paid in advance before arrival, and from second year it can be paid per semester. Check the fee for 2027/28 on the programme page before applying.
KTU’s deadline (1 June in the 2026 cycle) falls before Leaving Cert results come out. Its guidance does not mention applying with predicted results, so contact KTU early.
