About the course

A four-year engineering degree (240 ECTS credits) that starts with mathematics and physics and moves on to electrical systems, thermodynamics and renewable energy technologies. Students choose between Smart Electric Power Systems and Sustainable Thermal Energy Systems. In the final semester there is a 15-credit professional internship.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • KTU does not publish a specific rule for the Leaving Certificate. It asks for a school-leaving certificate awarded no more than 3 years before you apply, with an average above 60% in each entry subject. Ask KTU admissions how Leaving Cert H and O grades are converted.
  • The admission score is 40% Mathematics, 40% a science or technology subject (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, IT, Geography or Engineering Technologies) and 20% English, all based on final exam results. Leaving Cert Maths and a science subject such as Physics therefore matter most.
  • English: applicants whose native language is not English need IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 75 or CEFR B2 (tests must be less than two years old). Applicants whose previous studies were entirely in English are exempt, and KTU also offers a free online English test. Irish applicants should confirm with KTU that their Leaving Cert is accepted as proof of English.

How to apply

  1. Check your subjectsMake sure you are taking Maths and at least one science subject such as Physics. These make up 80% of the admission score, and you need more than 60% in each entry subject.
  2. Apply on apply.ktu.eduRegister, upload your documents and pay the non-refundable application fee. The 2026 window ran from 15 October to 1 June, so look for the 2027 dates from October 2026.
  3. Submit resultsUpload predicted or provisional Leaving Cert results, then your final results when they come out in August.
  4. Accept and payIf you get an offer, accept it and pay the first year’s fee before you arrive. Studies start on 1 September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For the 2026 intake, applications on apply.ktu.edu ran from 15 October 2025 to 1 June 2026, and studies began on 1 September 2026. KTU has one intake a year, in autumn. The 2027 dates were not yet published when checked (September 2026). If KTU follows the same pattern, applications would open in mid-October 2026 and close around 1 June 2027. Confirm on the KTU admissions site..

Costs

  • EUR 4,201 per year for 2026/27 (EUR 70.02 per credit, 60 credits a year). KTU publishes one fee for all international applicants, so EU students pay the same rate as non-EU students. The 2027/28 fee was not yet published when checked. The first year’s fee must be paid before you arrive in Lithuania. Later years can be paid in instalments, one per semester. There is also an application fee, which is non-refundable once you register. KTU offers partial tuition waivers and other scholarships, and EU/EEA citizens can also compete for state-funded places.
KTU’s deadline (1 June in the 2026 cycle) falls before Leaving Cert results come out. Apply early with predicted grades, and confirm how KTU handles results issued in August. The programme is offered in both English and Lithuanian, so make sure you apply for the English-taught group.
