About the course

A six-year integrated Master’s programme taught in English in Kaunas, leading to the qualification Master of Health Sciences, Medical Doctor. Lithuanian language is part of the curriculum in Years 1 to 3.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. LSMU’s 2026 rules require applicants to have passed all STEM subjects, and the Leaving Certificate is not on the list of qualifications that exempt applicants from the entrance test.
  • Entrance test: an interview held a few days beforehand (minimum 5.0 out of 10) plus a 90-minute multiple-choice exam with 30 Biology and 30 Chemistry questions, taken online (or in Kaunas during Open Days); results are given the next day. A UCAT score of 2100, MCAT 511, IMAT 57 or NEET 650 can replace the written test.
  • English: TOEFL iBT 4.0, IELTS above 5.5, PTE Academic 55 or more, Duolingo 95, or equivalent B1 level; otherwise sit LSMU’s English test (minimum 50%).

Working in Ireland afterwards

Because your medical degree comes from an EU/EEA country, the Medical Council of Ireland can recognise it automatically under EU Directive 2005/36/EC, as long as it is listed in Annex V (point 5.1.1). If that listing says the degree must come with an internship or state-exam certificate from your home country, you need to have that too, and you must also show your current professional standing and meet the English-language requirements. Graduates of EU/EEA medical schools may apply to the HSE for Irish intern posts, but only if their home-country degree does not already count as complete training. In older HSE intern guides (e.g., the 2022 guide), only graduates from medical schools in Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Iceland and Slovenia could apply. Graduates from other EEA countries (and Italians holding the ‘abilitante’ degree) were told they are not eligible, because they qualify directly for General registration. Applicants who need no work permit were matched before those who do. Please check the current eligibility list in the HSE intern guide for the year you apply. We could not confirm it for the July 2027 intake because the current HSE guide pages are password-protected.

How to apply

  1. Apply onlineCreate an account at apply.lsmuni.lt (opened 1 November in the 2026 cycle) and upload your school results and passport. LSMU contacts you within 72 hours, then you pay the EUR 150 application fee.
  2. Sit the interview and testDo the online motivation interview, then the 90-minute Biology and Chemistry test a few days later. In the 2026 cycle sessions ran from 13 January to 30 July.
  3. Accept your offerPay the EUR 250 registration fee, sign the study contract and pay the EUR 1,500 EU/EEA deposit by the dates given.
  4. Legalise documents and registerGet your Leaving Certificate apostilled, then attend Student Registration Week, the week before studies start on 1 September, with original documents.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: 2026 cycle: applications opened 1 November 2025, entrance tests and motivation interviews started 13 January 2026, first deadline 6 July 2026 (system closes at 00:00), additional admission from 7 July to a final deadline of 30 July 2026. Dates for 2027 entry are not yet published; if the pattern repeats, applications would open around 1 November 2026..

Costs

  • EUR 12,800 a year for Years 1 to 3 and EUR 13,300 a year for Years 4 to 6 (2026 cycle figures). The university does not publish a lower rate for EU students on this English-taught programme, so expect to pay the full fee. One-off costs: EUR 150 non-refundable application fee, EUR 250 non-refundable registration fee after an offer, and a EUR 1,500 deposit for EU/EEA students to confirm the place.
Because your medical degree comes from an EU/EEA country, the Medical Council of Ireland can recognise it automatically under Directive 2005/36/EC if it is listed in Annex V. Older HSE intern guides named Lithuania among the countries whose graduates could apply for Irish intern posts, but check the current HSE guide for your year. Lithuanian language classes are part of Years 1 to 3.
