About the course

A full-time, English-taught law degree (210 ECTS over 3.5 years) from MRU’s Law School in Vilnius. It focuses on applying law to global security issues, including how international institutions respond to security threats.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • MRU accepts the Leaving Certificate (Established) or the LCVP. Its country-specific page sets a minimum of two Higher Level subjects plus four further passes, but the grade wording is garbled (for post-2017 results it reads ‘2 HD1 and 4 OD3/HE’). Ask admissions to confirm the exact grades. MRU’s admissions page also requires an average of at least 60% of the maximum possible grade.
  • You need to write a motivation letter with a short personal introduction, a personal SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) and your expectations of the programme. MRU may also ask for an English or Maths test, the Online Mathematics Placement Test (OMPT) or a motivation interview.
  • English at B2 level is required, shown by IELTS (5.5-6.5), TOEFL iBT (72-94), PTE (59-75) or Duolingo (100-125), for example. MRU waives the certificate if you are a native speaker, if you were educated entirely in English, or if you pass its free online English test. Irish applicants should confirm with admissions that the exemption applies to them.

How to apply

  1. Check requirementsContact MRU admissions to confirm the minimum Leaving Cert grades, and whether you need an English test or are exempt.
  2. Prepare documentsGet your Leaving Cert results (or provisional results), passport and English proof (if you need it) ready. Write the motivation letter, including your SWOT analysis.
  3. Apply onlineApply on apply.mruni.eu and pay the application fee. The 2027 deadline is not yet published (the EU deadline was 24 July in 2026), so check the portal early in 2027.
  4. Accept and registerIf you get an offer, pay the EUR 50 registration fee and the tuition fee, sign the study contract, and arrange accommodation in Vilnius before studies start on 1 September 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: MRU has not yet published the application dates for 2027 entry. For 2026 entry, applications ran from 1 January to 24 July 2026 for EU/EFTA applicants (1 June for non-EU applicants), and studies started on 1 September. Check apply.mruni.eu for the 2027 dates..

Costs

  • MRU’s application page lists a fee of EUR 3,250 a year (2026/27), with an estimated EUR 3,315 a year for 2027/28. It does not show a separate EU rate. The course page lists a one-off, non-refundable EUR 100 application fee. MRU’s admissions page gives EUR 50 for EU citizens, so check which one applies to you. A non-refundable EUR 50 registration fee is paid when you accept.
This is a fee-paying place of about EUR 3,250 to 3,315 a year. The degree covers international and security law, not Irish law, so it does not lead directly to qualifying as a solicitor or barrister in Ireland.
