About the course

An integrated dentistry degree (300 ECTS) taught in English, starting with anatomy, physiology and biochemistry and moving through pre-clinical training to supervised clinical practice in diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive care. Compulsory, free Lithuanian classes run alongside the course.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university does not publish a fixed Irish Leaving Certificate requirement, and the Leaving Cert is not on its list of school qualifications that exempt you from the entrance exam, so Irish applicants should expect to sit it. Biology at school is mandatory. Contact admissions to confirm how your results are assessed.
  • Applicants sit an online entrance exam (EUR 200) unless exempt through a qualifying MCAT (500+), BMAT, IMAT (50+) or NEET (650+) score, or a listed school qualification such as the IB Diploma or A-levels.
  • English: IELTS Academic 6.5+, TOEFL iBT 81+, Cambridge 176+, PTE Academic 59+, LanguageCert IESOL B2 or Duolingo 120+; exemption if English is your first language or you were educated through English. A motivation letter is also required.

Working in Ireland afterwards

A dental degree from an EU member state that is listed in the EU Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC, as amended) can be recognised automatically by the Dental Council of Ireland. To get this, you provide a certificate from your home country’s competent authority confirming the degree meets the Directive’s minimum training conditions, plus proof of English-language proficiency. EU dental degrees that do not qualify for automatic recognition may instead be assessed under the Directive.

How to apply

  1. Check eligibilityConfirm you have Leaving Cert Biology and an English certificate or exemption, and ask admissions how your results will be assessed.
  2. Apply onlineSubmit your application and motivation letter at apply.vu.lt with the EUR 100 fee. For 2026 the EU deadline was 1 July.
  3. Sit the entrance examBook an online exam date (2026: January to July) and pay EUR 200 at least 48 hours beforehand, unless exempt with a qualifying test score.
  4. Accept and payIf offered a place, pay the first-year tuition and prepare for an early-September start.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For the 2026 intake the deadline for EU/EFTA citizens was 1 July (non-EU/EFTA: 1 May, with the entrance exam to be completed by 14 May). Studies began in early September (5 September 2026 on the application portal). Online entrance exams in 2026 were held on 22 Jan, 26 Feb, 19 Mar, 16 Apr, 14 May, 18 Jun, 16 Jul and 23 Jul (14:00 Lithuanian time). The 2027 dates were not yet published when checked..

Costs

  • EUR 15,000 per year for a non-state-funded place, which is how international applicants on the English programme are admitted. There is also a non-refundable EUR 100 application fee and a one-off, non-refundable EUR 200 entrance exam fee, paid at least 48 hours before the exam. These are 2026 figures; confirm for 2027.
A dental degree from an EU member state can generally be recognised by the Dental Council of Ireland under the EU Professional Qualifications Directive; check the Dental Council’s current requirements. Lithuanian classes are compulsory and free for six consecutive semesters; basic Lithuanian is needed for clinical courses and the final-year internship, and students must reach at least B2 (with a certificate) by the end of the course.
