Entry requirements for Irish students

  • VMU publishes no specific Leaving Cert conversion. For international applicants it asks for a school-leaving certificate with a minimum average of 60%, and it assesses your qualification after it has received all your documents. Confirm with VMU admissions how Leaving Cert grades (H1-H8, O1-O8) are converted, and whether it will make an offer on a provisional certificate.
  • The programme page gives a competitive score of 80% your average school-leaving grade and 20% your English grade, with a minimum of B2 in English. There is no entrance exam, but you must send a motivation letter (1,200-3,000 characters) and a CV in English.
  • English: B2 is the minimum, shown by an accepted certificate such as IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge English First or Duolingo. The admissions page says native speakers and applicants educated in English may be exempted, but the FAQ lists no exemptions, so ask VMU before relying on one. English counts in your score here, so confirm how VMU grades Leaving Cert English.

How to apply

  1. Prepare documentsGather your Leaving Cert results (or predicted/provisional results), passport copy (valid for at least 2 more years), a 3×4 cm photo, a CV and a motivation letter. Ask your school for a letter confirming you were taught through English.
  2. Apply on DreamApplyApply on VMU’s DreamApply portal once the 2027 intake opens (expected early November 2026). You can choose up to 2 programmes, and you pay the EUR 150 application fee. The EU deadline in the 2026 cycle was 1 July.
  3. Recognition and offerVMU recognises your qualification (about 20 working days once it has all your documents), then the faculty decides on admission (about 5 working days).
  4. Pay and enrolSign the study agreement and pay the full first-year fee (EUR 4,201 for EU students in 2026/27) in one instalment by the invoice deadline. If you miss it, your application is cancelled. Studies provisionally begin on 23 August 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2026 entry, EU/EFTA citizens had until 1 July 2026 to apply for bachelor programmes (non-EU applicants: 1 May). VMU says applications for autumn 2027 open in early November 2026, with studies provisionally starting on 23 August 2027. Check the 2027 deadline once it is published..

Costs

  • EU/EFTA citizens paid EUR 4,201 a year in 2026/27 (non-EU: EUR 4,400). There is also a non-refundable EUR 150 application fee. If you are accepted, you pay the full first-year fee in one instalment by the deadline on your invoice. The 2027/28 fee has not been published yet, so confirm it on the VMU tuition fees page.
This is a fee-paying place that you apply for directly through VMU’s DreamApply portal, not through LAMA BPO. It is a specialist linguistics and literature degree, and your English grade counts towards the admission score.
