About the course

A three-year (195 ECTS), fully English-taught bachelor’s degree in economics and business at a small private business school in Riga that is linked to the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden. It covers more than 50 courses. In final year you choose two specialisation tracks from six: Economics, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Data & AI, Retail Management and International Politics. You also do two summer internships and can study abroad at partner schools. Graduates receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences in Economics.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Latvia has no set formula for converting Leaving Cert grades. SSE Riga asks for at least 6/10 in both Maths and English, with state examination results in both subjects. It does not say which Leaving Cert grade (H1-H8 or O1-O8) meets this, so ask admissions which grade and level (Higher or Ordinary) you need.
  • As well as meeting the Maths and English grades, you must pass SSE Riga’s admissions test (basic maths, logical reasoning and English, about 4 hours) and an interview. The top 150 candidates get places.
  • If you finish school in summer 2027, SSE Riga gives you a conditional offer. The offer is confirmed once it receives proof that you finished school and your final grade transcript.
  • English: if you went to school outside Latvia, SSE Riga asks for a B2 English certificate. You are exempt if your secondary education was taught in English, which should cover an Irish school where you were taught through English. Ask admissions to confirm the Leaving Cert is enough, so you do not need IELTS.

How to apply

  1. Check requirementsIn autumn 2026, read SSE Riga’s bachelor admission page and email admissions to ask which Leaving Cert Maths and English grades meet the 6/10 requirement, and to confirm the Leaving Cert covers the English requirement.
  2. Apply online (free)Apply directly to SSE Riga online before 6 April 2027. There is no application fee.
  3. Admissions test and interviewSit the admissions test on 17 April 2027 (about 4 hours: maths, logic and English). If you are shortlisted, you will have a 40-minute interview between 11 and 28 May 2027.
  4. Offer, results and enrolmentEU applicants hear by 8 June 2027. The offer is conditional until you send proof that you finished school and your final Leaving Cert results, which come out in August 2027. Then pay tuition and find accommodation in Riga.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: The application deadline for 2027 entry is 6 April 2027. The admissions test is on 17 April 2027 from 10:00 Riga time (EET) and lasts about 4 hours. Interviews run from 11 to 28 May 2027. EU applicants get their acceptance letters by 8 June 2027. This deadline is months earlier than the August deadlines at Latvian public universities..

Costs

  • SSE Riga’s official tuition page gives EUR 5,950 a year for EU/EEA/EFTA students starting in 2027/28. The full fee is EUR 8,350, but every EU student automatically gets a Baltic-EU Student Scholarship of EUR 2,400 a year for three years. The fee stays the same for all three years. SSE Riga is a private school, so there are no free places, but every student is considered for competitive scholarships that can cover part or all of the tuition. Applying is free: SSE Riga does not charge an application fee.
SSE Riga is private, so you pay tuition: EUR 5,950 a year for EU students in 2027/28, after an automatic EUR 2,400 scholarship. There are no free places, but there are merit scholarships. The 6 April deadline comes before the Leaving Cert exams, so you apply before you have your results and must also pass the test and interview.
