About the course

A three-year, full-time honours degree in the Faculty of ICT on designing intelligent computer systems. Compulsory modules cover programming, data science and the logic behind AI. Electives include robotics, computer vision, reinforcement learning and generative AI, and the final year includes a 30-ECTS project. UM teaches in English.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • UM’s general entry rule for the Irish Leaving Certificate is 6 Higher Level passes, including 2 at H2, 2 at H3 and 2 at H6. These must include Higher Level passes in a language, a science and a humanities subject.
  • Special Course Requirements: grade C or better in Pure Mathematics and in Computing, with one at Advanced Level and the other at least at Intermediate Level. UM treats a Leaving Cert H2 as an Advanced Level grade C and an H6 as an Intermediate Level grade C. In practice this means Higher Level Maths and Computer Science, one at H2 or better and the other at H6 or better. Leaving Cert Computer Science is not offered in every school, so if you don’t take it, ask UM Admissions whether you can still get in. For example, you might first take UM’s Certificate in ICT Foundation Studies.
  • English: an Ordinary Level grade O4 or better in Leaving Cert English may be accepted instead of an English language test.

Costs

  • UM’s course page lists a fee of EUR 10,800 a year for non-EU students only. The EU/EEA fee is not shown on the pages checked. EU students on a first full-time bachelor’s degree at UM are generally not charged tuition, but confirm this and any application fee with UM before you apply.
This course needs Higher Level Maths and Leaving Cert Computer Science, one at H2 or better and the other at H6 or better. If your school doesn’t offer Computer Science, contact UM Admissions before you apply.
