About the course

UM offers the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) as named four-year, 240 ECTS degrees in the Faculty of Engineering, taught in English. Mechanical Engineering has a common first year, then three streams from Year 2: Applied Materials in Engineering, Applied Mechanics and Thermofluids Engineering, and Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. Electrical and Electronic Engineering lets you specialise through electives in Years 3 and 4.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • General entry with the Irish Leaving Certificate: 6 Higher Level passes (2 at H2, 2 at H3 and 2 at H6), including Higher Level passes in a language, a science and a humanistic subject. If English is your mother tongue, the language must be one other than English.
  • Course requirement: Advanced level passes at grade C or better in Pure Mathematics and in Physics. UM treats H2 as grade C at Advanced level, so you need H2 or better in both Higher Level Maths and Higher Level Physics.
  • English: an Ordinary Level pass at grade O4 or better in Leaving Cert English meets UM’s English requirement. Otherwise you need an approved English test (SELT).
