About the course

This is a 5.5-year (11-semester, 330 ECTS) integrated master’s in veterinary medicine at EUVG’s campus in Coimbra. It is offered in Portuguese, English and French options. In the final semester you do a curricular internship and a dissertation. The degree is accredited by A3ES for 6 years from July 2021. EUVG is a candidate member of EAEVE, which means it has not yet completed EAEVE accreditation.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • EUVG does not publish a fixed requirement for the Irish Leaving Certificate. It assesses foreign qualifications individually, so contact admissions to confirm.
  • The entrance exams for the course are Biology and Geology (worth 50%), together with one of Physics and Chemistry, Mathematics or Philosophy. Your exam result and your secondary school average both count towards your score. Applicants with foreign qualifications may be able to use equivalent exams from their own school system. Ask EUVG how your Leaving Certificate subjects will be treated.
  • No interview is mentioned. EUVG does not publish an English-language requirement for the English option. First-year students on the English option take a compulsory intensive Portuguese course.

Working in Ireland afterwards

Veterinary degrees from EU member states listed in Annex V (point 5.4.2) of Directive 2005/36/EC are recognised qualifications you can register with at the Veterinary Council of Ireland, which in effect means automatic recognition. You still need to apply to the VCI to register before you can practise. Check the VCI’s list of recognised qualifications to confirm your specific degree is on it.

How to apply

  1. Contact admissionsEmail EUVG (geral@euvg.pt, +351 239 444 444) and ask which admission route and dates apply to EU applicants for the English option in 2027. Also ask whether the whole course, including the clinical years, is taught in English, and how your Leaving Certificate will be assessed.
  2. Meet the exam requirementFind out whether your Leaving Certificate Biology and science results count as equivalent to the Biology and Geology entrance exams, or whether you need to sit EUVG’s own exam. In 2026, EUVG’s international route held its exam on 11 May.
  3. Apply on InforestudanteApply through inforestudante.euvg.pt. Upload your passport, your Leaving Certificate results and any other documents requested, and pay the €350 application fee (2026/27 amount).
  4. EnrolAfter you are accepted, enrol and pay the registration fee, insurance and the first tuition instalment. In the 2026 international cycle, enrolment ran from 2 to 17 July.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: EUVG has not published a 2027 application calendar for EU applicants to the English option. The only calendar on its website is for the 2026/27 international-student route. Under that route, exam registration ran from 1 to 30 April 2026, the exam was on 11 May, applications ran from 21 May to 21 June and enrolment from 2 to 17 July 2026. EUVG’s rules say this route is for students who are not Portuguese nationals, but EU nationals are excluded from it, so it probably does not apply to Irish applicants. Ask EUVG which route and dates apply to you for 2027 entry. In 2026 the international dates fell between April and July, so contact EUVG early in 2027..

Costs

  • EUVG publishes a separate fee table for the English option, for students from EU/EEA countries. For 2026/27 tuition is €11,310 a year (the course page gives it as about €945 a month). You can pay it in one go, in two instalments of €5,732 or in three instalments of €3,848. There are other charges on top. For 2026/27 these are a €350 application fee, a €700 registration or renewal fee each year, a compulsory €1,400 intensive Portuguese course in first year, and school insurance. The final 6-month internship is charged separately, at €5,655 if paid in one go. EUVG is a private institution, so these fees apply to EU students too. Fees for 2027/28 are not yet published, so confirm all current figures directly with EUVG.
Veterinary degrees from EU member states listed in Annex V (point 5.4.2) of Directive 2005/36/EC are recognised qualifications you can register with at the Veterinary Council of Ireland. You still need to apply to the VCI to register, so check that this degree is on the VCI’s list of recognised qualifications before you apply. EUVG is an EAEVE candidate, not yet an accredited member. First-year students on the English option must also take a compulsory intensive Portuguese course.
