About the course

A six-year (360 ECTS) dental degree taught in English at the Faculty of Dental Medicine in Timisoara, with preclinical and clinical dental training.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university’s list of recognised diplomas accepts the Leaving Certificate (Ardteistiméireacht) with at least 6 subjects, ‘at least 2 of which at A level’ (the list does not explain how this maps to Higher Level). For regulated professions such as dental medicine it also asks for a certificate showing access to higher education in the same field, issued by a recognised Irish university. It does not publish minimum grades or required subjects. Your school-leaving average counts for 50% of your final score, so contact admissions to confirm how your Leaving Certificate will be assessed.
  • Entrance exam: a written test of 50 biology multiple-choice questions (human anatomy and physiology) taken from the published Medicine/Dental Medicine question bank. Exam grade = 3 + 7 x (score/50); final average = (exam grade + school-leaving average) / 2, minimum 5.00.
  • English: you are exempt from the university’s language test if you finished secondary school taught in English or hold a B2-level certificate (Cambridge, TOEFL, IELTS, Trinity and similar); otherwise you sit the online pass/fail test (EUR 150).

Working in Ireland afterwards

A dental degree from an EU member state that is listed in the EU Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC, as amended) can be recognised automatically by the Dental Council of Ireland. To get this, you provide a certificate from your home country’s competent authority confirming the degree meets the Directive’s minimum training conditions, plus proof of English-language proficiency. EU dental degrees that do not qualify for automatic recognition may instead be assessed under the Directive.
