About the course

A three-year, 180 ECTS political science degree taught in English, covering political theory, the history of political thought, political parties, institutions and public life in Romania. It includes a required 112-hour internship and Erasmus+ mobility options.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The faculty accepts EU citizens holding the Romanian baccalaureate or an equivalent exam. Irish applicants need a CNRED recognition certificate for the Leaving Cert (or proof they have applied for one); Irish documents need an Apostille. The faculty does not publish how Leaving Cert grades (H1-H8, O1-O8) are converted, so confirm this with admissions (admitere.fspub@unibuc.ro).
  • Test 1 is an eliminatory pass/fail paper written in English of up to 4,000 characters (not counting spaces) on a political topic, based on books, art, documentary films, TV series or other media. Applicants who pass are ranked on their school-leaving exam average (Test 2).
  • No separate English certificate is listed: your English is assessed from the level of the paper you submit.

How to apply

  1. Get your Leaving Cert recognisedApply to CNRED for a recognition certificate as soon as results are out (about 30 days, 100 lei, Apostilled documents).
  2. Write your paperPrepare the English paper (maximum 4,000 characters without spaces) on a political topic drawn from books, films, TV series or other media.
  3. Register onlineRegister on the MOPAS admission platform in the July window (1-17 July in 2026) and upload the paper, application form, diploma, birth certificate, medical certificate, photos, ID and proof of the 200 lei fee.
  4. Confirm your placeIf you pass the paper and rank high enough, confirm your place in the confirmation window (21-24 July in 2026). Final results were published on 30 July.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: 2026 cycle: July session registration 1-17 July (on-site 13-17 July), paper (Test 1) results 18 July, place confirmation 21-24 July, final results 30 July. A September session ran 1-8 September 2026 with far fewer places. Expect similar July and September 2027 dates; confirm once the faculty publishes the 2027 calendar..

Costs

  • Fee-paying places cost 6,250 lei a year (about €1,250; the euro figure is approximate and depends on the exchange rate). EU citizens can also compete for tuition-free (state-funded) places, and students on those places pay no tuition in first year. The faculty charges a 200 lei registration fee for a first application. CNRED recognition of the Leaving Cert costs 100 lei.
The Leaving Cert must be recognised by CNRED before the July admission window, and the results only come out in late summer, so start the recognition process immediately and email the faculty early to ask whether proof of a pending application is accepted.
