About the course

A six-year integrated bachelor and master programme (360 ECTS) taught entirely in English at a faculty that has been evaluated by EAEVE, the European veterinary education body. Every year includes intramural and extramural practical training, and year 6 includes practical work in slaughtering and food-processing units.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. Your final grade is 90% your school-leaving exam average (baccalaureate or equivalent) and 10% for recommendation letters or volunteering certificates, for example in animal protection, scored simply as yes (10%) or no (0%). Ties are broken on the Biology/Chemistry exam grade, then on the native-language exam grade. EU applicants also need a certificate of recognition of studies from CNRED, the Romanian recognition body, requested through the faculty’s form.
  • There is no entrance exam or interview. An English certificate at B1 level or above from the accepted list (for example IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, TOEIC or Trinity ISE) is mandatory, and the published conditions give no exemption for native speakers.

Working in Ireland afterwards

Veterinary degrees from EU member states listed in Annex V (point 5.4.2) of Directive 2005/36/EC are recognised qualifications you can register with at the Veterinary Council of Ireland, which in effect means automatic recognition. You still need to apply to the VCI to register before you can practise. Check the VCI’s list of recognised qualifications to confirm your specific degree is on it.

How to apply

  1. Prepare documentsGather your Leaving Certificate results and transcripts (apostilled and translated as required), an apostilled birth certificate, passport or ID card, a medical certificate, an English B1 certificate, and any recommendation letters or volunteering certificates. Fill in the CNRED recognition of studies form.
  2. Register onlineRegister on admitere.usamv.ro and pay the EUR 100 fee. In 2026 registration ran from 8 to 20 July.
  3. Check resultsIn 2026 initial results were published on 24 July. Candidates are ranked 90% on school-leaving grades and 10% on recommendations or volunteering.
  4. Sign and paySend the signed study contract and pay the first EUR 4,000 instalment within the set window (25-28 July in 2026, with 31 July given on the admission page), or you lose your place. Bring your original diploma at the start of the year; it must be handed in during the first semester.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: 2026 cycle (2027 dates not yet published): platform opened 1 July; online registration 8-20 July 2026; list of candidates 21 July; file checks and evaluation of recommendation letters/volunteering certificates 22-23 July; initial results 24 July; signed study contract and first fee instalment 25-28 July (the admission page gives 31 July 2026, 3pm Romanian time, as the contract and payment deadline); final list of admitted EU candidates 31 July 2026. There is no entrance exam or interview. Expect similar July dates for 2027 entry and confirm on the faculty website..

Costs

  • EUR 8,000 a year for the English-taught programme. All 50 places are tuition-fee places, so EU/EEA students pay too. EU students pay in two instalments of EUR 4,000: the first when sending the signed study contract (25-28 July in 2026), of which EUR 2,500 is a non-refundable confirmation fee, and the second before the winter exam session in January. There is also a non-refundable EUR 100 registration fee. These are the 2026 figures; the 2027/28 fee has not yet been published.
Veterinary degrees from EU member states listed in Annex V (point 5.4.2) of Directive 2005/36/EC are recognised qualifications you can register with at the Veterinary Council of Ireland, which in effect means automatic recognition, but you must still apply to the VCI to register, so check its list of recognised qualifications. The July application window closes before Leaving Certificate results are normally issued, so ask admissions how they handle Irish applicants applying straight from school.
