About the course

A veterinary medicine degree taught in English at USAMV Cluj-Napoca’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which also runs a French line. For the English line, applicants are ranked on their school-leaving results rather than on an entrance exam.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. For 2026, English and French line candidates were ranked 100% on their baccalaureate or equivalent average, and you need a CNRED certificate of equivalence (Romania’s diploma recognition centre) for your school-leaving qualification.
  • No entrance exam or interview is listed for the English line in 2026. The Biology and Chemistry tests apply only to the Romanian-taught line.
  • English: you need a B2-level certificate from an authorised body. Applicants from countries where English is an official language are exempt if they have followed courses in English for the last 3 years. Irish students should confirm with admissions that this applies to them.

Working in Ireland afterwards

Veterinary degrees from EU member states listed in Annex V (point 5.4.2) of Directive 2005/36/EC are recognised qualifications you can register with at the Veterinary Council of Ireland, which in effect means automatic recognition. You still need to apply to the VCI to register before you can practise. Check the VCI’s list of recognised qualifications to confirm your specific degree is on it.
