About the course

A 180-credit (3-year) bachelor’s programme in data science with a specialisation in applied AI. It combines mathematics, computer science and social responsibility, with hands-on work building, implementing and improving modern AI technologies. Students can focus on applying AI in business, healthcare or energy, and there are small student groups, real-world projects with companies and options to study abroad on exchange.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • University Admissions in Sweden accepts the Leaving Certificate for general entry if you took at least six subjects, with at least two at Higher Level. Predicted grades are not accepted, so you need your final results. Places are ranked on final grades.
  • Halmstad says every programme has specific entry requirements listed in its syllabus. For an AI and data science degree these are likely to include maths, but the required level is not shown on the programme page. Check the syllabus or email admissions@hh.se, and University Admissions will assess whether your Leaving Cert Maths level and grade meet the requirement.
  • English: Halmstad requires the equivalent of Swedish English 6. University Admissions accepts a Leaving Cert English result of Ordinary Level grade 6 (O6) or D or better.

How to apply

  1. Check the specific requirementsBefore applying, read the programme syllabus or email admissions@hh.se to confirm the maths (and any other subject) requirement.
  2. Apply on universityadmissions.seCreate an account and apply in the international round for autumn 2027, which runs from 16 October 2026 to 15 January 2027. Rank Halmstad’s Applied AI programme among your choices.
  3. Upload documents by 1 February 2027Upload your final Leaving Cert results (predicted grades are not accepted) and a copy of your passport or ID card. In practice this means applying after you get your results, for example during a gap year.
  4. Check results and acceptBachelor’s results for the first round come out on 8 April 2027. Accept your place on universityadmissions.se and follow Halmstad’s instructions for starting in the autumn 2027 semester.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Autumn 2027 applications go through universityadmissions.se. The international first round opens on 16 October 2026 and closes on 15 January 2027. Supporting documents (final Leaving Cert results and proof of citizenship) are due by 1 February 2027, and bachelor’s results come out on 8 April 2027. A second round opens on 15 March 2027 and closes on 15 April 2027, with documents due by 23 April and results on 9 July. Halmstad’s own listing for this programme also gives 16 October 2026 as the date applications open. Leaving Cert results come out in late August, after both rounds, so most Irish students apply the year after sitting the exam..

Costs

  • No tuition fee for Irish and other EU/EEA citizens (under Swedish rules, tuition and application fees apply only to non-EU/EEA students). You must upload a copy of your passport or ID card as proof of citizenship by the document deadline.
You must apply with final Leaving Cert results, not predicted grades, so most Irish students apply the year after the Leaving Cert. Check the maths requirement in the syllabus or with admissions@hh.se before applying.
