About the course

An English-taught engineering degree (180 credits, Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering) at Kristianstad University. For 2027/28 the programme is presented as specialising in intelligent systems (earlier versions specialised in the Internet of Things). You study electronics, sensors, computer architecture, embedded systems, operating systems, computer networks, cybersecurity, and algorithms and data structures, and use lab work and projects to combine hardware and software into working engineering solutions.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • University Admissions in Sweden accepts the Leaving Certificate for general entry if you took at least six subjects, with at least two at Higher Level. Predicted grades are not accepted, and places are ranked on your final grades.
  • Specific requirements (as stated by the university for 2027/28): intermediate-level Physics, basic-level Chemistry (or intermediate-level Natural Sciences) and advanced+ level Mathematics. These are written as Swedish upper-secondary levels, and University Admissions decides whether your Leaving Cert subjects meet them. Higher Level Maths and a science subject such as Physics are the safest choice. Confirm with the university before applying.
  • English: a Leaving Cert English result of Ordinary Level O6 (or D) or better meets the English requirement.

How to apply

  1. Check the requirementsBefore October 2026, check with Kristianstad University or University Admissions that your Leaving Cert maths and science subjects meet the specific requirements.
  2. Apply onlineApply at universityadmissions.se between 16 October 2026 and 15 January 2027 (usually after you have your final Leaving Cert results).
  3. Upload documentsBy 1 February 2027, upload your Leaving Cert results and a copy of your passport or ID card as proof of EU citizenship.
  4. Get your resultAdmission results are published on 8 April 2027; accept your place and prepare for an autumn 2027 start in Kristianstad.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: International admission round for autumn 2027 at universityadmissions.se: opens 16 October 2026, closes 15 January 2027. Supporting documents (including proof of citizenship) due 1 February 2027. Bachelor’s results published 8 April 2027. A second round runs from 15 March to 15 April 2027 (documents by 21 June, results 9 July), but Leaving Cert results arrive only in late August, so most Irish applicants apply in the year after their Leaving Cert..

Costs

  • No tuition fee and no application fee for EU/EEA citizens, including Irish citizens. You must upload a copy of your passport or national ID card to universityadmissions.se as proof of citizenship by the document deadline. Students from outside the EU/EEA pay tuition fees; check the current amount on the university’s programme page.
Because Sweden ranks applicants on final grades and the main deadline is in January, most Irish students apply after receiving their Leaving Cert results, usually with a gap year. The maths requirement is high (advanced+ level), so check early whether your Leaving Cert maths qualifies.
