About the course

A three-year, 180-credit economics bachelor taught entirely in English on the Växjö campus. It combines micro- and macroeconomics and econometrics with practical data analytics. In semesters 1 and 2 you study the basics of economics and statistics. Semesters 3 and 4 cover more advanced economic theory and quantitative methods. In semester 5 you choose a course package or study abroad, and semester 6 has capstone courses and your degree project. In the final year you can specialise in Financial Analytics, Business Analytics, Data Analysis of Public Policy, or Business and Economics. You graduate with a Bachelor of Science with Economics as your main subject. If you meet extra business administration requirements, you can instead take a Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • University Admissions in Sweden accepts the Irish Leaving Certificate for general entry if you took at least six subjects, with at least two at Higher Level. Predicted grades are not accepted, so places are ranked on final results. Most Irish school-leavers therefore apply after getting their results, for example with a gap year.
  • Specific entry requirements (written as Swedish upper-secondary courses): Mathematics 3b or 3c, Civics 1b (or 1a1 + 1a2), and English 6. University Admissions decides whether your Leaving Cert maths and other subjects meet these. Leaving Cert maths is normally needed, but we could not confirm whether Ordinary Level is enough. Linnaeus selects applicants on 70% school grades and 30% the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test, but you do not need to sit the Swedish test to apply on your grades.
  • English: a Leaving Cert English result of Ordinary Level O6 (or D) or better meets the English requirement (English 6).

How to apply

  1. Check the programme pageFrom 16 October 2026, check on lnu.se that the programme is listed for autumn 2027 (application code LNU-F3225 was for 2026). Also check how your Leaving Cert maths will be assessed against Mathematics 3b/3c.
  2. Apply on universityadmissions.seApply between 16 October 2026 and 15 January 2027 for autumn 2027 entry.
  3. Upload documents by 1 February 2027Upload your final Leaving Certificate results and a copy of your passport photo page as proof of EU citizenship. Predicted grades are not accepted.
  4. Check results on 8 April 2027Bachelor’s admission results for the first round are published on 8 April 2027. Reply by the deadline given to keep your place.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Autumn 2027 first (international) round on universityadmissions.se: opens 16 October 2026, closes 15 January 2027. Supporting documents, including proof of citizenship, are due by 1 February 2027. Results come out on 8 April 2027. There is a second round (opens 15 March 2027, deadline 15 April 2027, documents by 21 June 2027, results 9 July 2027), but it mainly serves students already in Sweden and has fewer English-taught programmes. Leaving Cert results arrive in late August, after both rounds close. The Linnaeus page currently shows only the autumn 2026 intake, so check it lists an autumn 2027 start once applications open on 16 October 2026..

Costs

  • EU/EEA and Swiss citizens pay no application fee and no tuition fee, but only once they have documented their citizenship (for example with a copy of the passport page with their photo and personal details). Upload it by the document deadline (1 February 2027 for the autumn international round). If you miss it, your application is treated as late. Living in the EU is not enough: you must be an EU/EEA or Swiss citizen. The fee Linnaeus lists for non-EU students (72,200 SEK for the first year, 433,500 SEK for the whole programme) does not apply to Irish citizens.
Sweden does not accept predicted grades, and Leaving Cert results come out after the application rounds close, so most Irish students apply the year after their Leaving Cert. This programme requires maths (Swedish Mathematics 3b/3c), so check how your Leaving Cert maths grade will be assessed.
