About the course

A 180-credit bachelor’s on the sustainable use and supply of minerals and metals for the green transition. Many courses are carried out in collaboration with industrial partners, and the programme is taught in Luleå.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • University Admissions in Sweden accepts the Leaving Certificate for general entry if you took at least six subjects, with at least two at Higher Level. Places are ranked on final results; predicted grades are not accepted.
  • Specific requirements (as listed on an earlier LTU programme page): the Swedish upper-secondary courses Mathematics 4, Physics 2, Chemistry 1 and English 6. In Leaving Cert terms this means you should expect to need maths, physics and chemistry; University Admissions decides whether your subjects and levels match, so confirm on universityadmissions.se before applying.
  • English: a Leaving Cert English result of Ordinary Level O6 (or D) or better meets the English requirement.

How to apply

  1. Check requirementsBefore October 2026, look up the programme on universityadmissions.se and check that it is listed for autumn 2027 and that your Leaving Cert maths, physics and chemistry meet the specific requirements.
  2. Apply onlineApply at universityadmissions.se between 16 October 2026 and 15 January 2027 (autumn 2027 start). Most Irish students apply in the year after their Leaving Cert, when final results are available.
  3. Upload documentsBy 1 February 2027 upload your Leaving Cert results and a copy of your passport or ID card as proof of EU citizenship.
  4. Get your resultAdmission results are published on 8 April 2027. Accept your place, then contact Luleå University of Technology about accommodation and arrival.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Autumn 2027 first round at universityadmissions.se: opens 16 October 2026, closes 15 January 2027; supporting documents due 1 February 2027; bachelor’s results 8 April 2027. A second round opens 15 March 2027 and closes 15 April 2027 (documents due 21 June, with a later date of 5 July for some EU/EEA school results; results 9 July). Leaving Cert results arrive after both rounds, so most Irish school-leavers apply after receiving results. The programme page still showed the autumn 2026 intake (open for late applications) when checked; check universityadmissions.se for whether the programme is listed for autumn 2027..

Costs

  • No tuition fee and no application fee for EU/EEA and Swiss citizens, including Irish citizens. You must upload a copy of your passport or national ID card as proof of citizenship by the document deadline (1 February 2027), or your application is treated as late.
Places are ranked on final grades and the main application round closes before Leaving Cert results come out, so most Irish students apply in the year after their exams (for example after a gap year). You will need maths, physics and chemistry; check the exact requirements on universityadmissions.se before applying.
