About the course

A three-year, 180-credit bachelor’s programme taught in English on the politics, societies and cultures of Europe, from the past to the present. The next intake starts on 30 August 2027 and runs full-time, daytime, in Malmö until June 2030. Places are ranked 66% on upper-secondary grades and 34% on the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test (SweSAT).

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • University Admissions in Sweden accepts the Irish Leaving Certificate for general entry if you took at least six subjects, with at least two at Higher Level. Predicted grades are not accepted, and places are ranked on your final results.
  • This programme also requires Civics 1b (or Civics 1a1 + 1a2) from the Swedish upper-secondary system. University Admissions decides whether a Leaving Cert subject meets this. Check with Malmö University or University Admissions before applying.
  • English: the programme requires English 6. A Leaving Cert English result of Ordinary Level O6 (or D) or better meets this.

How to apply

  1. Check the requirementsProgramme code HGPSK, start 30 August 2027. Ask Malmö University or University Admissions whether your Leaving Cert subjects meet the Civics 1b requirement.
  2. Apply by 15 January 2027Create an account on universityadmissions.se when the round opens on 16 October 2026 and add the programme by 15 January 2027.
  3. Upload documents by 1 February 2027Upload your Leaving Certificate results and a copy of your passport or ID card. Leaving Cert results only arrive in late August, so most school-leavers apply in a later cycle (for example after a gap year) once they have final results.
  4. Accept your offerResults for bachelor’s applicants are published on 8 April 2027. Reply to your offer on universityadmissions.se by the stated date.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: National first admission round for autumn 2027: applications open 16 October 2026 and close 15 January 2027; supporting documents due 1 February 2027; results 8 April 2027. The second round opens 15 March 2027 and closes 15 April 2027 (documents due 21 June 2027, results 9 July 2027), but few English-taught programmes are open then. Check on universityadmissions.se that this programme is listed in the round you apply in..

Costs

  • EU/EEA citizens do not pay tuition fees in Sweden (the full fee for non-EU students is SEK 325,000 for the programme). You must upload a copy of your passport or national ID card as proof of citizenship by the document deadline (1 February 2027 for the first round), or your application is treated as late.
Sweden ranks applicants on final grades, not predicted grades, and the main round closes before Leaving Cert results come out, so most Irish students apply the year after their Leaving Cert.
