About the course

This is a full-time, three-year circus programme (180 credits) taught in English. It combines training in your circus discipline, movement and stage techniques with theory courses (circus and cultural history, health and mental training, rigging and safety) and creative work. Students present work regularly, complete an independent degree project in year 3 and finish with the ‘Closing Acts’ graduation performances.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • University Admissions in Sweden accepts the Leaving Certificate for general entry if you took at least six subjects, with at least two at Higher Level. Predicted grades are not accepted, so your final results are needed. SKH exempts this programme from the Swedish-language requirements, so no Swedish is needed.
  • Specific requirement: you must pass SKH’s selection test. You name your main circus discipline (and a second discipline if your main one is a duo or group act). Then you submit a video of your disciplinary and technical skills (up to 3 minutes), a video of a circus act (up to 5 minutes plus a 30-second presentation) and a one-page writing sample. Applicants who reach a later stage also send an oral presentation video (up to 3 minutes). Selection happens in several stages.
  • English: SKH asks for English 5 or equivalent. University Admissions in Sweden accepts Leaving Cert English at Ordinary Level O6 (or D) or better.

How to apply

  1. Prepare your videosFilm your discipline/technique video and your circus act video, and write your one-page writing sample well before the January deadline. Check the selection test page for the exact tasks for 2027.
  2. Apply by 15 January 2027Apply at universityadmissions.se during the planned application period (17 November 2026 to 15 January 2027). Then submit your work samples through SKH’s Varbi portal by the same deadline.
  3. Upload documents by 1 February 2027Upload your school results and a copy of your passport or ID card as proof of EU citizenship to universityadmissions.se.
  4. Selection stages and resultsIf you pass the first stage, SKH may ask you for further material, such as the oral presentation video. Offers are made through universityadmissions.se in spring 2027. The programme is planned to start in autumn 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: SKH lists a planned application period of 17 November 2026 to 15 January 2027 (23:59 Swedish time) for the autumn 2027 intake. You apply at universityadmissions.se and upload your work samples (videos and a writing sample) through SKH’s Varbi portal. Under the national timetable, supporting documents are due by 1 February 2027. The selection test dates and result dates for 2027 were not yet published. The dates on the programme page are still from an earlier cycle..

Costs

  • No tuition fees or application fee for Irish and other EU/EEA citizens. You must upload a copy of your passport or ID card as proof of EU citizenship by the document deadline. Non-EU applicants pay SEK 900 to apply and tuition fees.
Your circus skills in the videos and later selection stages decide whether you get a place. Because Swedish admissions do not accept predicted grades, you will usually need your final Leaving Cert results in hand, so most Irish school-leavers apply in their gap year. Check with SKH and University Admissions if you plan to apply during your Leaving Cert year.
