About the course

A three-year, 180-credit Bachelor of Science with a major in informatics, taught entirely in English on campus in Trollhättan, on how organisations use and manage artificial intelligence. Courses include AI in information systems, data processing and programming for AI, user experience and Nordic design, human-AI collaboration, machine learning, predictive analytics and cybersecurity, organisational strategy, and ethical and sustainable AI. The programme uses work-integrated learning, with internships and company partnerships, and ends with a 15-credit thesis.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • University Admissions in Sweden accepts the Leaving Certificate for general entry if you took at least six subjects, with at least two at Higher Level. Predicted grades are not accepted. University West publishes nothing Ireland-specific, so confirm with University Admissions or the university.
  • Specific entry requirements: Swedish Mathematics 2a, 2b or 2c and Social Studies 1b (or 1a1 plus 1a2). University Admissions decides whether your Leaving Cert maths and social studies subjects meet these.
  • English: English equivalent to Swedish upper-secondary level is required. A Leaving Cert English result of Ordinary Level Grade 6 (or D) or better meets this.

How to apply

  1. Check requirementsConfirm with University Admissions that your Leaving Cert maths and social studies subjects meet the Mathematics 2 and Social Studies 1b requirements.
  2. Find the right roundSearch for the programme on universityadmissions.se to see which semester and round it is offered in. The programme page says applications open from June, and the programme may start in a spring semester.
  3. Upload documentsBy your round’s document deadline, upload your final Leaving Cert results and a copy of your passport or ID card as proof of EU citizenship. Predicted grades are not accepted.
  4. Results and startAccept your offer by the reply deadline shown for your round, then plan your move to Trollhättan.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: The programme page says only that the application period ‘starts from June’ and does not name the start semester. The programme structure appears to begin year one in a spring semester, which would mean a spring-round application, not the autumn 2027 international round (16 October 2026 to 15 January 2027). This is not confirmed. Check the programme’s listing on universityadmissions.se for the semester and deadline before planning..

Costs

  • Tuition-free for EU/EEA and Swiss citizens, and there is no application fee for them. Non-EU students pay SEK 120,000 a year (2027) plus a SEK 900 application fee. EU applicants must upload a passport or ID card as proof of citizenship by the document deadline.
This is a management-focused informatics degree about AI, not a computer science degree. It may start in spring, not autumn, so check the semester and round on universityadmissions.se. You will need final Leaving Cert results.
