About the course

A three-year, 180-credit programme leading to a Bachelor of Arts with Game Design as the main field of study. It is taught in English at Campus Gotland in Visby and combines hands-on game development in C++ with game design theory. Teaching is project-based and team-based: programming starts from the basics in year one and moves on to larger, more technical game productions in year two.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • University Admissions in Sweden accepts the Leaving Certificate for general entry if you took at least six subjects, with at least two at Higher Level. Places are ranked on final grades, and predicted grades are not accepted. Uppsala publishes nothing specific to Ireland, so confirm with University Admissions how your results are assessed.
  • Specific requirement: advanced mathematics, equivalent to the Swedish course Mathematics 3c (the 2026 listing calls it ‘further level 1c’). University Admissions decides whether your Leaving Cert Maths grade and level meet this, so check with them. Higher Level Maths is the safer choice.
  • English: equivalent to Swedish English 6. A Leaving Cert English result of Ordinary Level grade 6 (O6 or D) or better meets this.

How to apply

  1. Check the maths requirementBefore applying, confirm with University Admissions that your Leaving Cert Maths subject and level meet the Mathematics 3c requirement.
  2. Apply onlineCreate an account on universityadmissions.se and apply between 16 October 2026 and 15 January 2027 (first round, autumn 2027). Because predicted grades are not accepted, most Leaving Cert students apply in the cycle after they get their results, for example during a gap year.
  3. Upload documents by 1 February 2027Upload your final Leaving Cert results and a copy of your passport or ID card as proof of EU citizenship. If the citizenship proof is missing, the application is treated as late.
  4. Accept your offerResults are published on 8 April 2027. Reply to accept your place, then arrange accommodation in Visby before the autumn semester starts.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Autumn 2027 intake: the international first round on universityadmissions.se opens 16 October 2026 and closes 15 January 2027. Documents, including proof of citizenship, are due 1 February 2027 and results come out 8 April 2027. The university page currently lists intakes only up to autumn 2026 (deadline 15 January 2026, application code UU-K5370), so check the 2027 code when the programme is listed. A second round (deadline 15 April 2027) exists, but English-taught places may not be offered in it..

Costs

  • No tuition fees and no application fee for EU/EEA citizens, including Irish citizens. The fees on the programme page (SEK 330,000 in total) apply only to non-EU/EEA students. You must upload a copy of your passport or national ID card as proof of citizenship by the document deadline (1 February 2027), otherwise your application is treated as late.
Places are ranked on final grades and predicted grades are not accepted, so in practice you apply after your Leaving Cert results arrive. The course is taught on Campus Gotland in Visby, not in Uppsala city.
