About the course

A single-cycle Dentistry programme taught in English, leading to the MDDr. (Medicinae Dentalis Doctor) degree. The faculty lists it as a 5-year programme and says its accreditation process is under way and must still be approved.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. The faculty states only that your secondary school certificate must be at European Qualifications Framework level 4. EU applicants do not need full nostrification. Instead they need a recognition statement, which is only valid with a notarised copy of your diploma translated by a certified translator from the official Slovak registry.
  • Entrance exam: a Biology and Chemistry test, based on the faculty’s preparatory booklets. Check the faculty’s booklets page for the exact exam content.
  • English: the faculty states that it does not require an English-language proficiency certificate.

Working in Ireland afterwards

A dental degree from an EU member state that is listed in the EU Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC, as amended) can be recognised automatically by the Dental Council of Ireland. To get this, you provide a certificate from your home country’s competent authority confirming the degree meets the Directive’s minimum training conditions, plus proof of English-language proficiency. EU dental degrees that do not qualify for automatic recognition may instead be assessed under the Directive.

How to apply

  1. Get the preparatory bookletsGet the faculty’s official Biology and Chemistry preparatory booklets and use them to prepare for the entrance exam.

In 2026 the last window closed on 23 July.
  3. Sit the entrance examIn 2026 the Dentistry exam dates were 20 March and 3 June (both online) and 7 August (online or in person in Bratislava).
  4. Recognition and enrolmentIf you are admitted, provide the recognition statement together with a notarised copy of your Leaving Certificate, translated by a certified translator. Then enrol in September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2026 entry there were three rounds of the entrance exam, each with its own registration window: register 1 January to 26 February 2026 for the Dentistry exam on 20 March 2026; register 21 March to 12 May 2026 for the exam on 3 June 2026; register 4 June to 23 July 2026 for the exam on 7 August 2026. The March and June exams were online. For the August exam you could choose online or in person in Bratislava. You can sit only one exam per programme. Enrolment was in September 2026. Dates for 2027 entry had not been published, so check the faculty website..

Costs

  • EUR 14,500 per year for the 2026/27 intake. The faculty says tuition fees are guaranteed for the standard length of study. There is also a EUR 99 admission fee per application (EUR 198 if you apply for both Medicine and Dentistry), which must be paid before the registration deadline for your chosen exam date. The faculty lists one fee for the English-language programme and mentions no exemption for EU students. The 2027/28 fees had not been published when we checked.
The Dental Council of Ireland can automatically recognise an EU dental degree listed under Directive 2005/36/EC. You need a certificate from the Slovak competent authority confirming the degree meets the Directive’s minimum training conditions, plus proof of English proficiency. The faculty says the accreditation of this programme is still being approved, so check its status and length before you apply.
