About the course

A combined bachelor’s and master’s (single-cycle) degree in pharmacy leading to the Mgr. title, taught in English at Comenius University’s Faculty of Pharmacy in Bratislava. It includes a 6-month internship in educational facilities and public pharmacies, and the final thesis is experimental. The standard length is 5 years (maximum 7).

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. You need a completed secondary school leaving certificate, and a foreign certificate must meet Slovak rules on recognising the equivalence of educational documents.
  • Entrance exam: two online tests, one in Chemistry and one in Biology, followed by an online interview with at least 3 members of the admissions committee, including an English language instructor.
  • English: a ‘sufficient command of the English language’ is required and is assessed at the interview. No specific certificate or score is published.

Working in Ireland afterwards

A pharmacy degree from an EU/EEA member state that fully meets the Directive 2005/36/EC minimum training requirements (Article 44) can be recognised automatically. If you started your studies before the Directive’s reference date, you also need 3 consecutive years of professional experience within the last 5 years. Recognition is step one and PSI registration is step two: recognition alone does not let you practise, and you must also prove competence in English. EU law allows countries to limit EU-qualified pharmacists from running newly opened pharmacies, and we could not confirm on the PSI website whether Ireland does this. If you plan to be the supervising or superintendent pharmacist in a pharmacy, check with the PSI.

Costs

  • Tuition was EUR 7,500 per year for 2025/26, the latest year the faculty has published. The faculty page mentions no fee exemption for EU students, and fees for English-taught programmes in Slovakia are usually charged to EU students too. There is also a one-off EUR 50 admission fee. Optional exam preparation materials cost EUR 40 plus postage. The fee for 2027/28 had not been published when we checked.
A pharmacy degree from an EU member state that fully meets the minimum training requirements of Directive 2005/36/EC (Article 44) can be recognised automatically in Ireland, but recognition is only the first step: you must then register with the PSI and prove competence in English. EU law allows countries to restrict EU-qualified pharmacists from running newly opened pharmacies, so check with the PSI if you plan to be a supervising or superintendent pharmacist.
