About the course

A broad economics and business economics degree that also draws on geography, law, social sciences and applied data science, with nearly half the programme made up of optional courses. A Dutch-taught track has the same content.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Utrecht University accepts the Leaving Certificate with at least 6 subjects, of which at least 2 must be at Higher Level with a grade of H4 or better. This makes you eligible but does not guarantee admission.
  • You need maths equivalent to Dutch VWO Mathematics A or B. The university checks your level and does not publish an Irish grade. If you are short, you can take a Boswell-Bèta, CCVX or OMPT exam (75% minimum).
  • English at EMI-ready level.

How to apply

  1. Apply on StudielinkRegistration opens 1 October 2026. Apply by 1 May 2027 (EU/EEA).
  2. Upload documents and payUpload your documents in OSIRIS and pay the €100 application fee. You should get a decision within 3 weeks of a complete application.
  3. MatchingMatching is compulsory. If you live abroad, complete the matching form by 15 May 2027. Matching days in Utrecht (for applicants living in the Netherlands) are 15 April, 3 June and 24 June 2027.
  4. Confirm your placeSend your final Leaving Cert results and arrange tuition fee payment before the September 2027 start.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: 1 May 2027 (EU/EEA applicants); matching form by 15 May 2027 if you live abroad.

Costs

  • Standard Dutch EU fee: €2,771 (2027/28), as published by Utrecht University. The 2026/27 fee was €2,694.
  • EU students may be eligible for a Dutch tuition-fee loan (DUO).
